Throughout the tests that are performed in this blog, it is important to follow certain safety procedures when trying them at home, or even in a lab. Since the materials used are household materials, extreme safety precautions and lab procedures may not be necessary. However.....
- Clothing: Avoid loose clothing and long hair. (Tie up your hair if you can). Make sure your feet have protection.
- Always be aware of exit fire routes, especially when working with flammable and combustible material, like pipe drainers and air fresheners.
- Do not leave test unattended.
- All injuries must be tended to immediately by a figure of authority or guardian, regardless of severity.
- Work in a cleaned, spaced, uncrowded area.
- Do not throw materials or objects (we know-that apple is tempting).
- Carefully follow instructions and guidelines
- Do not taste substance unless indicated.
- ALWAYS clean up when finished.
With every material we work with, a safety symbol will be placed along with the post if the material has any safety hazards. Here are some symbols and to look out for:
HHPS
(Hazardous Household Products Symbols)
WHMIS
(Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
